Understanding the Triune Nature of God and Who We Are in Him

We were made in God's image. We were made as body, soul, and spirit. We have a body. In that body dwell the soul and the spirit. The body is flesh with chemical and biological reactions going on until the time of our death. It is mortal. Our soul is where we make choices, feel, and think. Our spirit is the life force that we do not understand. It is made like God. We do not know how it comes into us or how it leaves. But everyone knows that when the spirit leaves the body, the body is dead. People can measure our brain to tell when it no longer functions and the mind is gone. Those are the facts about our existence. Even if you do not believe the part about God making us, I think we all agree that the body, the mind, and the life force, or spirit are separate parts that work together as one being. Also, our body can be directed by our mind or by our spirit.  Romans 8:5-6 says “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.” (ESV)

Every living thing testifies of how things work together as one whole, although they have parts with separate functions. The body has different systems: skeletal, muscular, lymphatic, respiratory, circulatory, nervous and such. The body cannot exist without all of its systems working together. A plant is made of different parts. It has roots, stems, and leaves. Each of them is part of the plant which is not the plant without them all. A tree is like the smaller plant, just in a larger version. These things also have individual cells that work within the different parts of the larger thing. The essential parts are made of individual cells working together. Each cell contributes, but not of itself. It is under the direction of its DNA. It serves no purpose without the whole and without being a part of the whole, it dies.

God is triune. He has three parts that are all God but do not exist apart from each other. Each part has a different function. We are meant to function as the cells in a living organism with God as our Father and as the bride of Jesus. We are his sheep, meaning we follow His direction. He is the DNA. Once we have our purpose, within the whole, we exist in harmony with the whole.

John 10:27-30 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one.” (NKJV)

In recent history, the church has had two movements that revealed more truth about the nature of God. The Charismatic movement revealed to The Church the workings and power of the Holy Spirit. The first church was aware of that power, but it had been stolen from us and had to be reawakened. Through that movement, we learned that He is a person who cares about us and teaches us. He gives us the power to be His witnesses and tells us about the Father and The Son.

Shortly following the revelation through the Spirit came the Jesus movement. We had come to believe that God was out to get us, that we had to do works to be accepted, and that church attendance was enough. Many had no relationship with Jesus. But because of the Jesus movement, it became universally accepted that Jesus loves us. We learned about His mercy through the forgiveness of our sins and God's overwhelming love for us.

The Spirit and The Son have been revealed. I believe we are now entering into a more complete revelation of God as our Father. Without the complete revelation of God, we cannot walk in the fullness of everything God has for us. It is the final revelation of the nature of God before the culmination of the church age. These are the end of times. The church is beginning to exhibit the things that Jesus said would happen before the end. We are awakening to the real spiritual world with God as our Father, Jesus as our Brother, and the Spirit as the communicator and teacher.

As Jesus was saying goodbye to the disciples he said, (John 14:10-21) “Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I speak to you I do not speak on My own. The Father who lives in Me does His works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me. Otherwise, believe because of the works themselves. I assure you: The one who believes in Me will also do the works that I do. And he will do even greater works than these because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in My name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. If you love Me, you will keep My commands. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever. He is the Spirit of truth. The world is unable to receive Him because it doesn’t see Him or know Him. But you do know Him because He remains with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you. In a little while, the world will see Me no longer, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live too. In that day you will know that I am in My Father, you are in Me, and I am in you. The one who has My commands and keeps them is the one who loves Me. And the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father. I also will love him and will reveal Myself to him.”(NKJV)

(John 14:23-28) “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. The one who doesn’t love Me will not keep My words. The word that you hear is not Mine but is from the Father who sent Me. I have spoken these things to you while I remain with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit—the Father will send Him in My name—will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you. Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Your heart must not be troubled or fearful. You have heard Me tell you, ‘I am going away and I am coming to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I.”

The last prayer that Jesus prayed, (John17:20-25)  He said, “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.”

He was praying this prayer with you on His heart and He only prayed the will of the Father. He lived and died so that you could have the miraculous. God's entire goal is to be in relationship with you. To have each of you contribute to the whole the way cells contribute to the whole body. If one part of the body is hurting then all the parts do what they can to help the hurting part to heal. God wants you strong and whole and functioning through Him. He has left us everything. The works that Jesus did He did through the Father. If you believe in what Jesus did, you can believe in the Father working through you also. We are all one through Jesus. He will return soon for His bride, The Church, to make that work complete. But we do not have to wait for Him to return. We are one with The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who touches our spirit and teaches us what the Father wants. It is the work of Jesus that makes it possible to be one with the Father. That is why the veil was rent in two.

We who believe in Jesus all have that power available-only believe what God has said. The first day I was a Christian I was given the gift of faith. Faith to believe for miracles. I have seen God do many miracles. I can clearly hear God's voice. I have the gift of prophecy. The things I have been given I can give to others. I am asking God to give you faith for miracles. I want you to hear His voice. I want you to prophesy.  But you must ask Him. 2 Peter 1:21 (NKJV) “for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” Remember that His sheep hear His voice, so if you do not hear Him, ask for it. He told the disciples, (Matthew 10:8 NKJV) “ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give." Then in Acts 3:6 it was recorded that Peter said, “Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”

God the Father loves you and has provided for you to have everything you need. And the path to your healing miracle is right there next to you in church. Your fellow believer is there to give you what God has given him. If you need freedom from addiction, ask someone who has been set free to pray for you. If you have been freed from addiction, believe that you have the gift of freedom to give and believe for others. Whatever it is that you need, find someone who has that gift and ask them to pray for you. It is not something special for just a few. If you have it, give it. Pray. We are all the body. Ask the Father and He will give it to you because you believe in Him. Get someone who believes to believe with you. If you have received physical healing, pray for others to receive healing. Give away what you have been given.

(Malachi 4:2 HCSB) “But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings, and you will go out and playfully jump like calves from the stall.” Moses needed people to lift his arms in the battle, and so do we. We need to lift each other in faith, believing. (Matthew 18:20 NKJV) “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."

When you doubt, pray the scriptures in faith, speak out words of faith, and sing songs of faith because faith and doubt cannot dwell together. If you don't know a song, sing a new song. When we come to Christ, we are made part of the family. We are made joint heirs with Jesus. We are to be like Jesus. We are to do what the Father tells us the same as Jesus did. Don't sit and wait for it to happen to you. Just Be. Be is the first part of Believe.
